Hodges University's APA game introduces students to the basics of APA Style through an online, interactive game. In the game, zombies have overtaken the library and players must correctly answer questions on APA Style to earn pieces of an antidote to cure the zombies. The game is designed with common APA mistakes in mind and was built using the open freeware, Twine. It can be played in class, as a flipped classroom assignment, as an online assignment, or on an as-needed basis by highlighting it on the library's APA guide. The game addresses the importance of crediting sources, how to cite different source types, and how to format an APA Style paper. This is appropriate as a supplement to existing APA instruction in first-year courses and as a refresher for upper-level and transfer students. The game allows infinite attempts, provides feedback at each level, and enables students to backtrack to reference instructional material.
